Non-Toxic Building - Creating a Healthy Building

Faswall blocks are made with recycled wood and non-toxic cement. The recycled content of our blocks, coupled with the fact that they’re made of organic materials that will not off-gas into the home, makes them an even more eco-friendly building product.

NRDC notes that "Questionable chemicals lurk in many common home-renovation materials"

"Various chemicals—some toxic—that are shed from furniture, electronics, and toys, as well as building materials like insulation, sealants, adhesives, and paint. “Chemicals don’t stay put inside products,” says Veena Singla, an NRDC staff scientist and coauthor of a recent study on household dust.“They continuously migrate out into air and dust and then get into our bodies.”   -NRDC

The Big "offenders" include:

  • Vinyl Flooring or Wall coverings
  • Paint, Adhesives, Sealants and surface coatings with toxic chemicals
  • Engineered woods with formaldehydes or VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds)
  • Building Insulation and Foam Plastic Insulation.

Faswall Blocks have No Plastics or Foams or VOC's

Faswall Blocks are made from Recycled wood chips and cement. No polystyrene plastics or foams are used in the manufacturing process of our wall construction materials. Simple formula, simple ingredients, no hidden chemicals or toxins.

Faswall uses Natural Insulation

Insulation Value

  • Faswall blocks are a steady state R-25.5 with poly-iso, and steady state R-21 with mineral wool.
  • Composite and concrete components have high thermal heat capacity that increase the "effective"R-value

Direct Surfacing with Natural Stuccos and Plasters means Fewer Toxins

No Paint Required: You can surface finish Faswall® directly on both sides. It makes an excellent substrate for plasters and stuccos — it keys-in on the porous surfaces. Faswall® buildings can be designed to look as beautiful as any other wall construction material— it won’t look like a typical concrete block home, without wallboard, paints or treatments that can off-gas. Furthermore, this reduces the layers of wall construction materials needed, which means less toxins in your home as compared to conventional wall systems.

“We did a lot of research on various green building systems but settled on Faswall. Not only did it seem like the “greenest” technology, but the ease of building compared to other systems seemed like a good choice for an owner/builder. What we didn’t expect, but were totally delighted with, was how knowledgable and helpful the people at Faswall were. We couldn’t have done it without you!”
